2008 EVENTS

California, City of Fullerton
Fullerton residents spruce up your garden with FREE compost!

You just may notice an improvement in the look of lawns and gardens throughout the City of Fullerton. residents can treat their landscape with a special nutrient in compost given away FREE at Independence Park.

 Fullerton, CA., March 20, 2008--each year, the City of Fullerton teams withMG Disposal to host this free event in recognition of residents' valiant efforts in recycling their yard waste. Materials placed into containers marked by residents with "yard waste only" stickers is made into compost and given away at this annual event. This is a great opportunity for residents to help "close the loop" in the recycling process.

The FREE compost giveaway is scheduled to take place  rain or shine on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Independence Park located at 801 W. Valencia Drive. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or sooner if the compost runs out. Residents are limited to 60 gallons each and must bring their own containers. No bags allowed!

Minnesota
The Living Green Expo, Minnesota's largest environmental event, provides real solutions for people to live a better, healthier life with less impact on the environment. The two-day event, free to visitors, connects people who are interested in making a positive difference in their lives and communities.

Backyard composting and vermi-composting will be featured at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency's booth. There will be a full display on all aspect of composting and attendees will be able to talk to experts.

So come to the Grand Stand at the Minnesota State Fair Grounds on May 3 - 4, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and learn how to be Green.

California

Georgia
The State of Georgia proclaimed May 6-12, 2007 as Compost Awareness Week. [Press Release]

Maryland
Maryland Dept. of the Environment celebrates ICAW at the 2007 Flower Mart to be held the weekend of May 6th in Baltimore!

Minnesota
On May 5-6th, the State of MN had a booth at the Living Green Expo that featured backyard composting and worm composting. Experts were on hand to answer questions and give out ICAW posters. Over 14,000 people attended the event in 2006.

New Jersey
Ag Compost Facility sponsored a Interview/Shoot promoting the benefits of using compost. [Press Release]

Ohio
2007 Compost Bin Sale, May 5, 2007 from 9am – 1pm at the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District. Hamilton County will host a compost bin sale at two locations in the County. The cost of the Compost bins will be subsidized by the County. Compost Accessories like turners and kitchen collection bins will be available. Composting experts will be on hand to answer questions.

Oklahoma

2006 EVENTS

Many state organizations incorporated ICAW into existing programs - to name a few:

  • Charlotte-Mecklenburg County partnered ICAW activities onto Earth Day celebrations using the ICAW poster as the backdrop to their tabletop exhibit “What Can I Do.”
  • Timpanogos Special Service District (TSSD) in Utah had a buy one yard/get one free from April 3- May 17
  • Compost and Green Manure Workshop took place on May 11 at Missouri State University designed for home gardeners, farmers, professional groundskeepers, and educators.
  • The Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) in Chesapeake, Virginia set up a booth at the VA Beach Farmers Market on May 13th – they provide educational material on compost and back yard composting to attendees and sold 40 lb bags of Nature’s Blend Compost at a reduced cost to help generate interest in compost.
  • On May 6-7th, the State of Minnesota had a booth at the Living Green Expo that featured backyard composting and worm composting. Experts were on hand to answer questions and give out ICAW posters. Over 14,000 people attended the event. Proclamations: State of Washington; State of Oregon; City of Lompoc, CA; City of Santa Maria, CA; County of Santa Barbara, CA; City of Fullerton, CA
