Project Name: Organics Outreach

Requested # of Member Slots in this Position: 4

Mission and Goals for the specific project in which City Service Corps member is serving: To increase residential awareness, education, and participation in various DSNY organics programs by conducting a range of outreach. They will disseminate information about organics collection program before, during, and after the initial roll out periods, through site visits, and through community engagement.

Member Position Summary: The Organics Outreach Corps Members will help increase participation and understanding for DSNYs curbside organics collection service.

Detailed Functions of Position:

  • Disseminate information about DSNY’s organics program in all 5 boroughs of NYC.
  • Conduct site visits, trainings, public presentations, and workshops on participating in organics collection service.
  • Build relationships with organizations, nonprofits, civic groups and community organizations so as to increase public awareness. Conduct tabling outreach, workshops, and post information to relevant social media.
  • Track necessary programmatic information and submit outreach reports.
  • Capture photos and stories of success around outreach activities.
  • Conduct street tree care events to encourage residents to participate in curbside composting.

Preferred Academic or Experience Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of Member:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Knowledge/interest in recycling, sustainability, civic engagement, public outreach
  • NYS driver’s license, comfortable driving in NYC
  • Diverse language skills (i.e., Spanish, Chinese, Bengali, Russian, Korean, Arabic)
  • Ability to prioritize work load and work independently
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • Interest in field work and person-to-person interaction
  • Experience working with a wide range of computer applications (Excel, MS Word, Google Docs,
    etc).
